Dec 7-11
Monday: The students will take the Geography Bee to test knowledge of Geography.
Tuesday: Discuss Geography Bee answers; Workbook P. 56-57
Wednesday: Test Review; Open response questions
Thursday: Ch. 6 Assessment
Friday: Introduction to World War I.

Nov. 30-Dec 4
Monday: The students will answer three open response questions about the Industrial Revolution.
Tuesday: Read 2 passages about women’s rights of the early 1900's and make a parade poster that explains why people should support women's right to vote.
Wednesday: Read Chapter 6 lessons 1 & 2; complete vocabulary and take notes about Changing America in the early 1900's.
Thursday: Field Trip- students attend the movie "A Christmas Carol" in 3D!
Friday: Read Chapter 6 lesson 3; complete vocabulary and take notes about the Progressives and Reforms of the early 1900's.
Nov. 23-24
Monday: Ch. 5 Assessment
Tuesday: Reader's Theater play over Ellis Island.

Nov. 16 - 20
Monday: The students will do a Reader's Theater Play about the Transcontinental Railroad.
Tuesday: TSW read Chapter 5, Lesson 4 pgs. 170-175. TSW take notes on the information. We will discuss their open response question from last week.
Wednesday: TSW Read the newspaper, "Industrial Revolution Brings the World to America." Complete workbook 42,43,44,45.
Thursday: TSW will watch a video "New Yark Up Close: Immigration and the Industrial Revolution."
Friday: TSW review for the assessment. TSW complete Study Guide WB 47-48. Assessment on Monday.

Nov. 9-13
Monday: The students will read the newspaper titled "Amazing Industry Revolutionizes America and the World" and do a worksheet over the transcontinental railroad.
Homework: worksheet if not completed in class
Tuesday: The students will read Ch. 5 section 2 p. 154-159 and take notes.
Wednesday: Veteran's Day lesson
Thursday: The students will read the newspaper titled "Friendly Revolutions Build America into a Giant!" and complete the workbook pgs. 41-42.
Friday: The students will read Ch. 5 section 3 p. 160-167, take notes, and answer an open response question.

Nov. 2-6
Monday: The students will review Ch. 4 by doing WB P. 31 and 33 Then they will work on the summarizing of the Chapter pgs. 142-143 1-16.
Tuesday: The students will review the pgs. 142-143 1-16. Then the class will review for the assessment for Chap. 4.
Study for the Assessment.
Wednesday: Students will take an assessment over Chap. 4.
Thursday: Starting Chap. 5 "Railroads Link the Nation" students will read pgs. 146-150 and take notes.
Friday: Students will complete WB 39 - 40.

Oct. 26-30
Monday: The students will watch an Educational Video - The Story of Clotee, a Slave Girl about the Civil War and Reconstruction Period. They will respond in their journals about how they might feel if they were in Clotee's situation.
Teacher will review students for the Assessment that will be given tomorrow.
Tuesday: Give an Assessment on "After the Civil War".
Wednesday: Students will listen and follow along in the book pgs. 126-131, "The Westward Movement" Chap.4 Lesson 1. While listening to the tape they will be filling in the notes. Then with a partner they will write a question to ask a homesteader or a cattle rancher about the benefits and challenges of living in the West.
Thursday: Students will listen and follow along in the book pgs. 134-137 and take notes. Then they will complete the Review on pg. 137 1-6 with a partner.
Friday: Students will listen and follow along in the book pgs. 138-141 and take notes. Then they will complete Workbook p. 35.
Oct. 19-23
Monday: The students will (TSW) read "Lincoln's Lasting Legacy of Leadership" and "Events of Lincoln's Life and the Civil War." Then they will create a timeline of Lincoln's life and events.
Tuesday: TSW complete the timeline (15 events) and add pictures. When they are finished, they need to read "Integrity" section about Dred Scott.
Wednesday: TSW read "The End of Radical Reconstruction Brings Racial Segregation" together. Read "Waving the Bloody Shirt" and Growing Pains after the Civil War" and model summary bubble. Then complete Geography Activity 1-8 and Word Puzzle.
Thursday: TSW Read sections on cotton with a partner, "Cotton Gin," Why Was Cotton So Important to the South," Boll Weevi," and "Cotton Gets a Makeover." Then write a journal summarizing the articles.
Friday: TSW continue to finish the journal summary of the cotton articles.

Oct. 12-16
Monday: Students will read the newspaper "Two-Party Animals." Then complete a Venn Diagram with a partner comparing and contrasting the Republicans and the Democrats.
Tuesday: Students will review the Civil War. Then they will read pgs. 96-105. With a partner they will complete Workbook pg. 26.
Wednesday: Students will review Reconstruction by going over workbook pg. 26. Then they will get in groups and write down the rebuilding viewpoints by doing a Jigsaw. They will use the Newspaper titled: "Reconstruction: What is the Best Way to Heal the Wounds of War?
Thursday: Students will focus on new vocabulary about Reconstruction. They will do a Word Sort - this means putting each new word in a category.
Friday: Students will read silently books from history. When finished they will write the book's time period , and event or the person that they read about.

Week of October 5 - 9
Monday: The students will explore the three branches of government. P. 550-555 Note taking w.s. Add 3 facts for each branch of government to foldable.
Tuesday: Computer Lab: Students will watch a video from Brainpop about the Civil War to review what they learned in 5th grade before we begin learning about Reconstruction.
Wednesday: The student will complete an assessment about map components, government documents, and the three branches of government.
Thursday: The students will do an anticipation guide using concept sort to try to figure out which category each of the functions of the government should be placed with, example; local, state, and federal. The students will work in groups to read and understand the function of the local, state, and federal governments.
Friday: REWARDS DAY. Students that earned the field trip will go skating then to Tyson Park for lunch. The other students will stay back and have regular school day.
